Dirk Vander Kooij's "Chubby Chair" is a chair made from recycled refrigerator parts and molded using a giant 3D printer. Its very thick lines give the impression that the chair was made from plasticine.
DIRK VANDER KOOIJ (Purmerend, 1983) has managed to develop new techniques that give birth to unique creations. Fascinated by engineering, teeming with ideas, studying and improving his working methods for a long time, he firmly masters the tools that allow him to achieve what he has in mind.
For his graduation project, DIRK VANDER KOOIJ uses an old industrial robot which he transforms into a 3D printer and programs it to print a line of furniture. In a precise back and forth movement, the articulated arm superimposes, in a very precise and waste-free manner, thick nets of molten plastic which generates the shape of a chair or a tablet. The material used is recycled plastic from fridges.
DIRK VANDER KOOIJ is a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven. Her work has been shown on various occasions since 2011, notably during the Salone del Mobile in Milan and at the DMY in Berlin.
